On Thursday 7th July 2011 President Eddie handed over to President Elect Barry Toshner, in the presence of our distinguished visitor District Governor Roberta Gaitan.
To view Andy Cattanach's photos of the event click the link below. The obvious hilarity was John Leslie, our senior member, during his usual exemplary annual handover vote of thanks presenting Eddie with a Fez to go with his weekly Tommy Cooper jokes.

Hopefully this will shortly be published in our local newspaper the Rutherglen Reformer. <<< It is now the end of one Rotary Year and the start of a new one with a new President in Barry Toshner who is taking over from Eddie Goldberg. Barry is supported by President Elect Brian Williams who will succeed him next year. Barry is a locally based Solicitor with offices in Cambuslang.. Eddie has presided over another very good year in a second term for him in Rutherglen Rotary Club. He was delighted to welcome Scott Allan and Ken Burgess into the Club in his year and it is hoped that this will progress during Barry’s year.
At the AGM Eddie paid tribute to retiring secretary Brian Cole-Hamilton for his dedicated and efficient handling of the Club’s secretarial duties over the past 5 years. There was great enjoyment for all members in the fellowship, social gatherings and events. As always this was accompanied by a considerable number of good causes, local, National and International, benefitting both financially and in practical ways. Some examples from the year are included in the following. A very successful Race Night and Christmas Bucket Collection. The "Thanks for Life" collection in Tesco and Morrisons to aid of the "End Polio Now" campaign. The distribution of Christmas Parcels to several families in the Rutherglen area had been greatly appreciated by the recipients as have those benefiting from Rotary Club's provision of the taxi service for Rutherglen carers The Flat in Largs was used well to provide holidays for those in the community who would otherwise not get one. The annual Quiz Night held in Cathkin Braes Golf Club and the International Students Night held in the same venue raised over £500 and this amount was matched by a donation from the Mory Wilson Trust and a cheque for £1000 was sent to the chosen charity "Mary’s Meals" The International Scholars Night turned out to be a very pleasant evening and was well supported by Club Members and their partners who enjoyed meeting the professional and business people from many parts of the globe. This year we were also able to sponsor a pupil from Stonelaw High School, Hannah McCarthy to the European Parliament as a participant in Euroschola 2010. The EK Rotary Club ‘Doon the Watter’ Waverley Cruise was supported by several Rutherglen Rotarians and their partners in July 2010. In November we visited an EK Kittoch Club meeting to hear the, then Motherwell FC, football manager Craig Brown give an excellent presentation . In the same week a number of Rotarians supported the Rutherglen Inner Wheel Musical Evening in Pollokshields Burgh Halls. Several of our members attended the Strathaven Club’s Annual Burns Supper in January 2011. The Jazz Dance Night event in Rutherglen Masonic Halls in February raised funds for Erskine Hospital and was well attended including visitors from the EK club. In early March, a minibus load of our members travelled to Edinburgh, lunched as guests of the Braid Rotary Club and then, at the invitation of James Kelly MSP, observed a session of the Holyrood Parliament. Following the success of the previous year’s Schools Public Speaking Competition we held the event again in Stonelaw Parish Church on the 15th March. Four local schools showed initial interest and three ie Cathkin, Fernhill and Stonelaw took part with Fernhill taking the prize. The judges were once more from the Glasgow Speakers’ Club. Again the standard of presentations was outstanding and the Fernhill team were presented with the Sir James Munn Memorial Trophy. The Club's Fellowship Weekend at Ballachulish in late March was an outstanding success and well attended by members of the club and their partners. A good number of our club members attended a stimulating evening visit to the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust at Bridgeton Bus Garage in April. Of particular satisfaction was the day trip taking almost all of Rutherglen High School's pupils and staff to Blair Drummond Safari Park where some Rotarians really got in the spirit with goes on the dodgems and other fairground rides. Most recently a donation of £1000 went to help the famine victims in the Horn of Africa. To go back to the Home Page Click Here.

Attached is a photo of Karen Jarvie, the local Burnside Tesco
Community Champion who spoke at our meeting last night being thanked by
President Barry Toshner.
She spoke eloquently and enlightened Rotarians about the many
good causes Tesco, and their customers, support, both locally and
nationally. Of course Rotary is one of those.
