Rutherglen Rotary Club Report from the Community Services Committee 2007/8 For the Club AGM Thursday 17th April 2008 Flat: Our major headache this year was to see the repairs to the dry rot in the flat completed. This work was carried out with a great deal of commitment from many people out with the Committee and the Club and I wish to express a special thanks to all of them for making the committee's involvement fairly minimal. However, both Lex who has now got heavily involved in overseeing the final preparation/decoration to the flat and John Leslie with vetting our potential guests so that we can open for business on 27 th April for our 2008 season, deserve special mentions.Fundraising: This year we have had two major events so far, our Christmas raffle at Somerfield and Rutherglen Shopping Centre. Here we raised some £1700 but our major disappointment was that the hoped for venue at Tesco did not come to fruition. Our Race Night at St Columbkilles Hall, although attracting a moderate audience, raised over £2000 and on that basis can be construed as a success. Both these events were to provide funds for our club commitment to Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres. We still have two fundraising events to go to continue to support Maggie's and these are to be two book sales at the Burnside Community Council Environmental day in May and in June at Landemar Day. So any donations of good second hand books would be greatly received by Jim Fitzpatrick and volunteers to man the stands. Rutherglen Carers: who we support by providing a taxi service is running smoothly after a few initial hiccups and the running costs are within the agreed monthly budget. The discontinuance of the service has been discussed at Council with a further review agreed for June 2008. Cartland Bridge: is scheduled to happen on 14 th May when we shall again be taking some 20 people to enjoy fellowship, some food and entertainment in the pleasant surroundings of Cartland Bridge Hotel.Donations: We have recommended some local people for the club to consider for funding and following Council's agreement donations were made on behalf of the Club to St Bartholomew’s School. Shoona Weetch and Fi Grimond. A further recommendation will be made to the Council tonight on behalf of Project Scotland. Thanks: Finally I should like to thank all the Committee for all their help and support and wise counsel throughout the year. I should like to give a special thanks to John Leslie for being a very able assistant throughout the year and thanks also to President lan and Jim Fitzpatrick for all their help with the Race night. And that concludes my report . Duncan Mclntosh, Chairman To return to the main page Click Here. To go back to the Top of this Page Click Here.
